‘The Shopping’

Faux Time

June 03, 2019 in SYDNEY SCHOOL SCULPTURE

Looks like a jumbo pack of toilet rolls. It’s not. It’s a bag of white cotton rags. The drawing disguises the contents. There is a relationship between rags and toilet paper, which does not need to be elaborated here.

The toilet paper imagery emerged out of finding myself with a marker and an amenable surface and the usual impulse to draw. I seem to enjoy drawing concentric circles and then have them haphazardly overlap.

That they should conjure themselves into a facsimile of my favorite object is circumstantial.

I have been buying extra long rolls of toilet paper for several years. I find they serve the purpose of slowing the flow of time. Time is mapped better by these rolls of toilet paper than the hands of the clock which rotate too quickly.

The drawing was done at various red lights on the way home from the hardware store. It is not illegal to draw at the lights and I am able to better employ the extra time I have.

The photo here shows the bag of ‘toilet paper’

Faux is de rigeur.
